Do You Believe In The Devil?

Do You Believe In The Devil- by Daren Jonescu over at Canada Free Press

I once took a class taught by a sly French-Canadian lecturer with a propensity to chuckle at his own jokes, as though they were intended primarily for his own amusement. One of my classmates, a Polish immigrant with all the correct Euro-liberal attitudes (atheist, socialist, vegetarian, etc.) liked to engage our teacher in debates about religion. One time, this student tried to short-circuit the debate with the common trick of challenging his opponent to concede belief in something so out of touch with modernity that his position would seem laughable.

“Do you really believe in the devil?” he asked incredulously. The teacher, whose English was weak, chewed over his answer just long enough to allow the student’s pride to swell, and then said: “I believe the devil is never more dangerous than when you don’t believe in him.”

The Republican Establishment’s latest attack in its war against Rick Santorum comes in the form of a banner headline on The Drudge Report announcing that in 2008, while speaking at Ave Maria University, Santorum claimed that Satan has his sights on the United States of America. Imagine that: a Catholic, speaking at a Catholic liberal arts college, used the word “Satan” to identify the source of the political and moral ills leading to his country’s decline.

Meathead Of The Day (2-19-2012)

2)  This one thing I believe Santorum is a meathead on otherwise I like him. He believes Obama is a Christian.  I  don’t believe Obama is because of Matthew 7:20. Obama "fruits"--actions--will clearly demonstrate if he was a follower of Christ.  Obama doesn’t show good fruit. Obama’s actions say different which is described in 2 Tim. 3:2 for one.

Revenge Of The Snobs

Revenge of the Snobs by Daren Jonescu over at Canada Free Press

Since Rick Santorum began to look like a viable option for those Republican voters too rational to follow the Party brass down the moderate sinkhole yet again, certain prominent Establishment voices have made it their personal mission to undermine him at all costs. And by “at all costs,” I mean they are willing to pony up their credibility, their claims to basic logical skills, and their hard-earned pretense of representing the perspective of actual Republican voters, all in the name of doing something—anything—to stop the anti-Romney forces right now.

No one has been further out in front in this regard than the Washington Post’s “Right Turn” blogger, Jennifer Rubin. She has been on an impressive spree, sometimes churning out several posts a day in her effort to portray Santorum as a misogynistic crackpot who could not possibly defeat Barack Obama once people find out what a backwater weirdo he is.

By way of an example of Rubin’s methods, and of what the Republican Establishment really thinks of conservatives, I suggest looking at just one of her recent posts. I cannot say it is her most recent—by the time you read this, she will undoubtedly have produced twenty more on the same topic—but it is representative.

Romney’s Failing Strategy of Attack

Romney’s Failing Strategy of Attack by Mark over at Mark America

For quite some time, Mitt Romney’s strategy has been to attack his opponents through surrogates, media shills, and advertising, but with few exceptions, while he has made a case against his opponents, sometimes less than honestly, he has failed to make a case for his own candidacy. Conservative voters are not herded by fear in most instances, and while you can occasionally turn them off from supporting a candidate if you can create enough of a negative buzz, what will not usually happen in such cases is to drive them into your own arms. This tactic works well when it’s a two-candidate primary, particularly with a mind-numbed lefty electorate, but in a four-way race with conservative voters, what can happen is what we have seen in Colorado, Minnesota, and Missouri: Mitt Romney has so thoroughly bashed Gingrich that he succeeded only in driving voters in those states to somebody else. Gingrich lost. Romney lost. Santorum won.

I think part of this grows out of Romney’s reliance on tactics that might have been valid in a more liberal state like the one he governed, where he could not gain victory without at least enticing some of a liberal mindset. In Massachusetts, there are certainly Republicans, but the conservative wing of the party is small and mostly ineffective. On a national scale, this is not true, and Romney will not be able to beat one conservative down without another rising in his place. Romney’s strategy may still get him the nomination by slow, steady attrition, but that will not win the general election in November when he will need the entirety of the nation’s conservative base out pulling his wagon if he is to have any hope of overcoming Obama. You cannot repeatedly offend conservatives and expect them to energize on your behalf, and this is what McCain had done over many years, and his best move was to nominate Sarah Palin, which was almost enough to overcome the ineptitude of his own campaign.

Hey GOP! Do You Hear Your Fed Up, Fired Up Base?

Hey GOP! Do You Hear Your Fed Up, Fired Up Base- by Janice Shaw Crouse over at American Thinker

In the view of many pundits, the GOP primary has boiled down to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich versus former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. But the consensus among numerous commentators is that former Senator Rick Santorum won the last two debates, and he has pushed ahead of Gingrich in some polls pitting various GOP candidates against President Obama.

Certainly, Santorum's performance in the Tampa debate earned him recognition as a contender. In one of the most prescient moments of the Republican primary, Santorum gave an impassioned explanation of why RomneyCare's role as the model for ObamaCare is the central issue for 2012. After Romney gave a tepid defense of his Massachusetts health care legislation, Santorum heatedly and powerfully attacked individual mandates and pointed out the similarities between Romney's and Obama's health care reform. Santorum bluntly declared that Romney's record on health care reform made him the wrong GOP candidate to put up against President Obama. It boiled down to, according to Senator Santorum, essentially surrendering the issue of our fundamental freedoms -- which is not likely to be acceptable to Tea Party activists, who are credited with enabling the Republican takeover of the House in 2010. Mr. Romney blew off the former senator's concerns: "It's not worth getting angry about."

Mark Over At Mark America Talks About Thursday Night Debate

Thursday Night Debate by Mark over at Mark America

I was suspicious about this debate when I heard Tammy Bruce play audio on Thursday of Romney telling his supporters who couldn’t get tickets to shove their way in, so I wasn’t surprised to hear rumors as the debate wore on that the audience was stacked with Romney supporters. The scuttlebutt is that 900 additional Romney supporters were brought in by the Florida Republican party, but I’m looking for confirmation. It seems that the Florida GOP did control 900 of the 1200 seats, so if they wanted to rig it for Romney, they certainly could have, but as of yet, I have been unable to confirm that it was disproportionately given to Romney supporters, but the fact that the Florida party controlled them means it could have been.

If I had to pick a “winner,” I would say Rick Santorum, but that’s provisional, because I think while he definitely made some excellent points, and put Romney in the position of making an ass of himself, I also suspect most people didn’t catch one thing he said that would actually damn him in my book, and theirs if they thought about it. If I had to say who was most honest in this debate, I would say Ron Paul, followed by Gingrich and Santorum in a tie for second, with Romney getting the evening’s Pinochio award.

You might ask why I would give Mitt Romney such a distinction, but it has to do with what he said about his vote in 1992. In the primary that year, he voted for Paul Tsongas, in the Democrat primary, so I’m a bit confused about what he said during this debate. The other significant issue was his use of the whole Gingrich “ghetto” business in relation to language. What Newt had been discussing was that he didn’t want to see people locked into ghettos defined by language barriers because they had not learned English. It had nothing whatever to do with the Spanish language, or those who speak it, as Romney and his ad attempted to imply. These two lies were the worst among lesser ones, but definitely noteworthy.

Media Dictatorship At A Debate Or Censoring The Opposition

Brian Williams v. Crowd- Who Is More Intelligent-by C. Edmund Wright

When you compare the substance of the so-called rowdy mob debates in South Carolina with the serious Brian Williams exercise in Florida, there is simply no contest.

Yes, it is true. The substance of the supposed cockfights in Carolina was actually far more intellectually important and informative than anything that was accomplished in Tampa. Frankly, what these debates must have are intelligent, concerned, and rowdy crowds to keep the feckless and clueless liberal moderators on the subject of anything important. Moreover, their reaction to the passionate and articulate defense of conservatism is a good way to motivate the candidates to keep articulating conservatism with passion too. It's a win-win. And for the media and other liberals, it's a lose-lose.

Without the crowd as a governor, so to speak, Monday night in Tampa, what we saw was a tortuous exercise where supposedly valuable time was wasted discussing the difference between sugar cane and sugar beets, Terry Schiavo and "Do Not Resuscitate" (DNR) orders, Elian Gonzales, and something about the Everglades that I'm sure is important to Floridians -- but should be none of the federal government's business in all likelihood. (Thank you, Ron Paul.)

And all of this crucial business was after we were tortured over how many years of tax returns the son of George Romney should release -- and some kind of discussion of business overhead that had something to do with gross versus net income of venture capital firms versus consulting firms versus CEO compensation of said firms and whether or not a man on Mars should pay that high a rate. Or something like that.
