Indiana’s Creationism Bill

Indiana’s Creationism Bill by Giacomo over at Godfather Politics

The Indiana Senate approved a bill that would have allowed creationism to be taught alongside evolution in public school classrooms. It would have been taught as an alternative theory on the origins of life.

The creationism bill then was sent over to the state House for consideration. The House revised the bill to allow the teaching of origin theories from multiple religions including Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and Scientology.

As a result of the revision, House Speaker Brian Bosma decided to table the bill because he believed it would result in a costly legal battle. Additionally, Robert Behning, chairman of the House education committee, said that it would be quite difficult for most school districts to find teachers with the necessary knowledge of origin theories from all of the different religions.

I Was Surprised To See This On Black And Right

The reason why I was surprised to see this on Black And Right. You don’t hear about Jefferson High School in Lafayette, IN, unless you live in Lafayette or Indiana. (Jeff has won a few state basketball championships, the reason I put Indiana).

Was I surprised by what happened in the video,?No! I went to high school at Jefferson. Yeap, this same one. I graduated from Jeff In 1976. Before i graduated Jeff was starting to have security patrol the school on the outside, due to vandalism from another high school. Things get pretty stupid around basketball tourney time. There were fights between students here and there. Sometimes a student did cuss a teacher out. (Jefferson isn’t a inner city school thing like in New York City.) So I wasn’t too surprised about assault.

Indiana Democratic Party Head Resigns as Fraud Probe Heats Up

I have been keeping watch on this case because it takes place in the state I live in.

Top Indiana Democrat Quits Amid Election Fraud Claims

The chairman of the Indiana Democratic Party announced his resignation Monday, as investigators probe allegations of election fraud stemming from the 2008 Democratic presidential primary.

Dan Parker, who served for seven years, did not cite the scandal as a reason for his decision. But the uproar over possible fraud in a race for the White House has already claimed the job of one county Democratic Chairman, who sources say was forced out because of the allegations.

Numerous signatures on petitions that placed then-candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton on the party's primary ballot were allegedly forged and then certified by the St. Joseph County Voter Registration Office in South Bend.

St. Joseph County Prosecutor Mike Dvorak has launched an investigation.

Parker, in a statement, said that "after seven years, it is time for a new leader to embrace our past successes and take up our future challenges." He also wrote that "I love the Indiana Democratic Party, and it has been my great honor to serve at its Chair."

Benjamin Ray, the Indiana Democratic Party press secretary, told Fox News that the forgery allegations involving the presidential primary petitions were not a factor in Parker's decision to step down.

"No, absolutely not," Ray said.

Steve McQueen-Early Life

stevemcqueen

Steve McQueen was born Terrence Steven McQueen in Beech Grove, Indiana.  His father, Terrence William McQueen abandoned McQueen and his mother when McQueen was six months old. His mother, Julian  was a young, rebellious alcoholic.

Unable to cope with bringing up a small child, she left him with her parents (Victor and Lillian) in Slater, Missouri, in 1933. As the Great Depression set in, McQueen and his grandparents moved in with Lillian's brother Claude to the latter's farm in Slater.

McQueen had good memories of the time spent on his great-uncle Claude's farm.  In recalling Claude, McQueen stated "He was a very good man, very strong, very fair. I learned a lot from him.”  On McQueen's fourth birthday, Claude gave him a red tricycle, which McQueen later started his interest in racing.  At age 8, he was taken back by his mother and lived with her and her new husband in Indianapolis.  McQueen retained a special memory of leaving the farm: "The day I left the farm Uncle Claude gave me a personal going-away present; a gold pocket watch, with an inscription inside the case." The inscription read: "To Steve -- who has been a son to me."

McQueen, who was dyslexic and partially deaf as a result of a childhood ear infection.  He did not adjust well to his new life.  Within a couple of years, he was running with a street gang and committing acts of petty crime.  Unable to control McQueen, his mother sent him back to Slater again. When McQueen was 12, Julian wrote to Claude asking once again that McQueen be returned to her, this time in Los Angeles, California. Julian, whose second marriage had ended in divorce, had married a third time.

This began an unsettled period in McQueen's life.  By McQueen's own account, he and his new stepfather "locked horns immediately." McQueen recounted him as "a prime son of a bitch" who was not averse to using his fists on both McQueen and his mother.  McQueen began to rebel once again, he was sent back to live with Claude a final time. At age 14, McQueen left Claude's farm without saying goodbye and joined a circus for a short time.  After which he slowly drifted back to his mother and stepfather in Los Angeles.  He resumed his life as a gang member and petty criminal. On one occasion, McQueen was caught stealing hubcaps by police, who handed him over to his stepfather. The latter proceeded to beat McQueen severely, and ended the fight by throwing McQueen down a flight of stairs. McQueen looked up at his stepfather and said, "You lay your stinkin' hands on me again and I swear, I'll kill ya."

After that incident, McQueen's stepfather convinced Julian to sign a court order stating that McQueen was incorrigible and remanding him to the California Junior Boys Republic in Chino, California.  McQueen slowly began to change and mature.  He was not popular with  the other boys at first: "Say the boys had a chance once a month to load  into a bus and go into town to see a movie.  They lost out because one guy in the bungalow didn't get his work done right.  Well, you can pretty well guess they're going to have something to say about that.  I paid his dues with the other fellows quite a few times.  I got my lumps, no doubt about it. The other guys in the bungalow had ways of paying you back for interfering with their well-being."

McQueen decided to give Boys Republic a fair shake. He became a role model for the other boys when he was elected to the Boys Council. Boys Council was a group who made the rules and regulations governing the boys' lives.  He eventually left Boys Republic at 16.  He later became famous, he regularly returned to talk to the boys there. He also personally responded to every letter he received from the boys there, and retained an association.

After McQueen left Chino, he returned to Julian, now living in Greenwich Village, but almost immediately left again. He met two sailors there from the Merchant Marine and volunteered to serve on a ship bound for the Dominican Republic. When he got there, McQueen abandoned his new post. He eventually made his way to Texas, and drifted from job to job.

Geez, Indiana Leaders

Why does the Hoosier State only have one person (Representative Dan Burton) calling for Attorney General Eric Holder’s resignation? There should be more Hoosier leaders calling for Attorney General Eric Holder’s resignation.

This man (Eric Holder) is incompetent. He lied under oath about his involvement  in ‘Operation Fast and Furious. It was his watch to where people got kill with these guns. He unconstitutionally sued our sister states for immigration bills that went along side Federal law. Eric Holder has released the New Black Panthers for voters intimidation saying there wasn't a case. These are just a few things he has done.

Get with it Indiana Leaders call for Holder’s resignation. We do not need criminals in our Federal government.

The Wolfman Of Versailles, Indiana.

An old tale is told here in Indiana of a man named Silas Shimmerhorn.  He was a deserter from General Morgan’s Confederate Raiders.  After Silas deserted, he hid outside Versailles in the hills, valleys, and woods because he knew if he was caught by either side his days would of living would be numbered.  For a while, Silas wandered around sleeping under the stars until he stumbled upon a cave, which is known today as the Bat Cave. (No, it isn't the cave of Batman but rodent like bats)

We all can imagine Silas living a solitary and difficult life.  At first Silas hunted game with the rifle he kept from his time as a soldier his ammunition started to dwindle.  Cyrus made himself a bow and a set of arrows from tree branches.  He began to hunt with the bow and arrows.

It was around this time Silas made some strange friends on his hunts, large pack of wolves.  Silas wasn't scared like a normal human being.  As a matter of fact, Silas befriended the wolves with pieces of the game he killed.  It didn't take any time at all for the wolves to adopt Silas into their pack.  Silas and letting his hair, mustache, and beard growing long.  He ran wild with the wolf pack through the fields and hunting with them.

This is where the trouble again for the nearby farmers.  Silas and the wolves were ransacking the chicken houses, slaughtering cattle.  It doesn't take a vivid imagination to understand how horrified the farmers were find their animals dead.

Rumors began to spread of the wild man with the pack of wolves being seen in the woods.  Some farmers reported seeing an odd stranger watching them.  If they approached the stranger, he fled.  The farmers described him as wearing no shirt or shoes, and wearing ragged gray uniform pants with long hair and beard.

The residents of Versailles started to set traps to catch the Wolfman.  The traps were wasted effort.  The Wolfman, Silas, proved too invasive for the traps.  However the tracker from the town made some headway in tracing Silas and wolves to the bat cave.  Unfortunately, they didn't catch Silas but they were confronted by a bunch of snarling wolves.  Trackers made a hasty retreat.

It has been said after hearing some of the stories of the Wolfman of Versailles, some of Silas’ old army buddies went north in search of him.  They hope to persuade Silas to return with them but to no avail. The only thing they got was a howling wolves in their ears.

This also said eventually, some brave farmers ventured into the bat cave.  The only things they found were the remains of the pine straw bed and eating utensils.

Today the area Silas roamed and hunted is Versailles State Park.  Campers have reported hearing wolves howl at night only to learn there are no wolves in the park.  A cave enthusiast has reported seeing Silas and his pack of wolves and the bat cave.  A park ranger had seen them too the incident wasn't reported.

About three months ago, I started writing "State Of The Month" articles for the WOSIB Newsletter. My first article was on my home state of Indiana. That was because I just signed up for to do the article and there was only about three or four days to get the article done before deadline, lol. So I pick a state I was fimiliar with. I am putting it up in my blog because got to clean my archives out. I will be putting up the other two state articles in my blog too.

*************************************************************************

State Of The Month
Indiana

Written By Kathleen

The name Indiana means ‘The Land of Indians’ or ‘Indian Land’. Indiana is known as the Hoosier State. The people from the State of Indiana are know as Hoosiers. How Indiana got the name of Hoosier State and people of Indiana Hoosiers is unknown. There are a lot of stories and legends how it came about. You can find a few of the stories and legends at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoosier

Indiana Symbols

Indiana’s State Flag

The Seal Of Indiana

Indiana Bird: Cardinal
Indiana Flower: Peony
Indiana Motto: The Crossroads of America
Indiana Poem: ’Indiana’ by Arthur Franklin Mapes
Indiana Song: ‘On The Banks Of The Wabash’, ‘Far Away’
Indiana River: Wabash River
Indiana Stone: Limestone

Indiana History

It was originally thought that Indiana was inhabited by migratory tribes of ’Native Americans’ as early as 8000 B.C. In 2003, archeologists found a tool carved from deer bone dating back 10,400 years ago. Which basically proved the first thought wrong.
By 900 A.D. a mound building Native Americans called Mississippians settled in Indiana. The Mississippians were dominant in Indiana until 1450 in which their entire civilization totally disappeared for some unknown reason. You can learn more about the Mississippians at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mississippian_culture
Indiana entered into recorded history when Europeans started to settle here. We were known as part of the ‘Kingdom Of France’ until ‘The French And Indian Wars‘. The British won that war and we became the ’Kingdom Of Great Britain’.
But due to our American rebellious nature called ‘The American Revolutionary War‘, the ’Kingdom Of Great Britain’ was short lived. We, here in Indiana, became a territory of the United States in which we placed under the governorship of William Henry Harrison. Indiana became the 19th state of the United States in 1816.
Following statehood, our new government (Indiana) set out to transform our state from a wilderness frontier into a populated and thriving state. Our state founders started programs for railroad, canals, roads, and public schools which almost bankrupt us. Due to the increase land value and produces saved our butts.
During the American Civil War, Indiana became a political influence in our nation. We were one of the first western states to mobilize our soldiers at the start of the Civil War.
In the 1900’s, we became a strong manufacturing state. Of course, the depression almost destroyed our manufacturing. We recovered during World War 2.
This is only a brief history of my home state of Indiana. If your interested in learning more like the birth place of Abraham Lincoln, Tecumseh’s War, War Of 1812, etc. Here are some webpages that will give you a start in the world of discovering more of my home state of Indiana‘s history: http://www.in.gov/visitindiana/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indiana#State_symbols http://www.answers.com/topic/indiana

Indiana Economy

Our highest income percentage is in manufacturing like pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, steel, automobiles, electrical equipment, transportation equipment, chemical products, rubber, petroleum and coal products, and factory machinery.
Our major crop is corn and soybeans. Believe me when I say, you can’t take a ride on the highway or a back road here in Indiana during the summertime without seeing rows of corn or soybeans.
We are becoming one of the leading state in the biofuels. Reynolds, located north of Lafayette is now known as BioTown, USA. The town is experimenting with using biofuels and organic fuels, such as those made with manure, to power the town.
Our mining is in limestone and coal.

Fun Facts In Indiana

Santa Claus, Indiana: During Christmas season Santa Claus, Indiana receives over a million letters and requests.
Stolen Profits: In June of 1972, Lowell Elliot of Peru, Indiana was said to have found $500,000 in cash on his farm. It looked like the money fell from the sky. It did. A skyjacker parachuting out of a plane had dropped his stolen profits over Elliot’s farm. Elliot returned the money to the authorities.
Corn: Half the cropland in Indiana is corn.
The Slippery Noodle Inn: Was establish in 1850. It is one of Indiana’s oldest bars. During Prohibition, the Al Brady and John Dillinger gangs were patrons of the inn. The gangs used the building in the rear (originally a horse stable for the Inn) for target practice. Today, several bullets remain embedded in the lower east wall.

Places To Visit In Indiana:

Indiana has plenty of places to visit depending on the kind of person you are. Turkey Run State Park is a park one can go hiking, canoeing, fishing, camping and enjoy nature.
There is Indiana Beach, an amusement park on Lake Shafer in Monticello, Indiana. They have over 30 rides and attractions. I am not sure if one can do it now but when I was a kid, my brothers, sisters, and I use to throw our popcorn in the lake to watch the cod pop up to eat it. What can I say it was amusing to us besides the rides.
There is Wolf Park. A park which is a preserve for wolfs.
Mounds State Park is known for its prehistoric Indian mounds in Anderson, Indiana. You can go fishing, swimming, hiking, and picnicking.
You can go to Parke County and visit the 30 Cover Bridges driving tour. Parke County has the largest concentrate of covered bridges in our nation.
In Battleground, Indiana, there is a small graveyard and monument dedicated to the soldiers that fought in the ‘Battle Of Tippecanoe’. Behind this is a lovely creek one can sit and enjoy the tranquility of the area.
If you are a person that enjoys art, Lafayette, Indiana, has a lovely art museum.
Oh, yeah, I can’t forget Abraham Lincoln’s birthplace in southern Indiana. The park has hiking, the old Lincoln homestead, the gravesite of Good Ole Abe’s mother.
