A fascinating theory has been advanced by Dick Morris, which, in turn, is being considered by Rush Limbaugh and other leading conservatives. Morris speculates that the Obama HHS mandate on contraception, sterilization, and abortifacients is a fight with the

Catholic Church that Team Obama wants -- and with the focus based narrowly on contraception, not abortifacients.

Dick Morris may be right. It seems no accident that Obama publicly noted that the vast majority of Catholic women use contraception. Yes, the vast majority does, but the vast majority does not support abortifacients -- that is, "contraceptive" drugs that cause or induce an abortion.

Obama is underscoring "contraception" generally, not abortifacients specifically. Sadly, our superficial media, which reflexively ramrods everything into a 10-second sound-bite, is aiding and abetting his tactic. Again and again, I hear reporters refer to Obama's mandate not as a mandate on "contraception, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs" (which it is), but as simply one on "contraception."

In his latest show Gov. Mike Huckabee was seen interviewing a Catholic priest, as they spoke, the Governor said that since the Catholics have come under attack “we are all Catholics.” The audience accepted what he said and while they knew the Governor was not referring to some giant ecumenical switch to Catholicism he was stating the obvious. When the government suspends or denies first amendment principles to the church, be it Protestant or Catholic, we all tend to close ranks.

In what is known in theological circles as the antediluvian period (before the flood) men were guided not by the Mosaic Law or by the New Testament but only by their conscience. That particular dispensation failed miserably and it is actually what precipitated the flood. Man’s conscience failed then (Ge 6: 5) and it has not improved at all since. According to scripture that is why God had to reveal what sin and error actually were according to his laws. When that was known he provided grace; because no one could keep all the laws. At no time did God ever allow man to return to the age of conscience, it would have been self defeating.

Nothing has changed, because God, unlike man, never goes backwards. Using only conscience to be our guide is as disastrous today as it was in the ancient world. It is what allows us to lump all religions together and pick and choose one or the other that seems to soothe our conscience. In the process we tend to pick the religions that crush personal responsibility the most. We choose systems where external actions, liturgies, symbolism and religious practice become a substitute for actually connecting to, and obeying, the living word of the Living God. The result is that the conscience actually comes into conflict with God’s revealed word and it is the word that is offended, disregarded and eventually abandoned.

It seems that Obama, in a classic act of hubris, has created the means of his own destruction. Through his great historical contribution, his health care bill, he has struck what was surely intended to be a lethal blow against the oldest organization on earth -- an organization with something on the order of a billion members, with a cadre of hundreds of thousands of highly trained and dedicated personnel, and a history of overcoming political threats that make Obama look like a kindergartner.

I'm referring, of course, to the Catholic Church. Now, I don't mean that the Archangel Gabriel will appear out of the East to scourge the administration with a blazing sword, though I would pay to see that. What I'm saying is that Obama has at last taken the step that we all knew he had in him, the ultimate act of arrogance and contempt that will bring the forces of history down upon him.

The left has always underestimated the Catholic Church. "How many divisions has the pope?" Stalin once asked Molotov, mocking the Church's powerlessness in the modern era. He was not around to see John Paul II rend the Bolshevik kingdom in twain at the climax of the Cold War, utilizing the only forces he required: moral certainty and absolute faith in the divine mission. Most American leftists are a little different, viewing the Church as an anachronism, obsessed with medieval ideas having no place in the third millennium and populated with strange figures in outmoded clothing, if not with an endless parade of child-molesters.

What they overlook is two thousand years of history. An organization does not survive for that length of time -- and no other organization has -- without internalizing things not completely understood by even the deepest thinkers among us. The Church survived the fall of Rome, the barbarians, the first Muslim upsurge, several schisms, the Renaissance princes, the 20^th-century totalitarians, and its own plunges into decadence, and it will also survive modernism. Which is in fact what it confronts in Obama: a man of vast though superficial sophistication and little insight who has punched all the tickets available to him in his epoch and culture and truly believes there is nothing else. And now this man, afraid of revealing his own college transcripts, thinks he can take on the Church of Peter, founded a millennium before the appearance of any nation now existing on this earth.

We’re They Thinking

It appears the Lying King, Obama, and the HHS dominatrix, Kathleen Sebelius, have finally pushed the envelope on abortion and reproductive issues within ObamaCare beyond acceptable limits of their Left-leaning Catholic allies. It is fantastic that the Catholic Bishops are taking a moral stand against the reproductive agenda of the Lying King and the dominatrix, but this issue should never have gotten to this point. The allies find themselves in a very conflicted situation, a situation they helped to create. In their rush to ram through the social justice injustice agenda within ObamaCare, the Left-leaning Catholic allies allowed themselves to be deceived on the abortion issue by the master manipulator in the White House. The question is, with the documented track records of Obama and Sebelius, what were their Catholic allies thinking when they aligned themselves with these abortionistas?

For the record, I am a Roman Catholic, and I am a member of our parish Pro-Life Ministry. I am well aware that none of us is without sin, but some people actively engage in purposeful sin. Recent actions by the regime shine an ever-brighter light on a level of perdition heretofore not forced upon people of faith within this country.

Satan’s modus operandi is deceit, and he is sinisterly gifted in deceiving all of us. So, if Satan were focused upon deceiving us with his ego, why wouldn’t he start with those at the top of the Catholic Church? If he can use our President as his proxy to deceive even a few of those at the top of the Catholic Church into believing social justice is justice, and that social justice overrides the right to life, he has breached the core of the Catholic faith, and of Christianity.

Catholic Bishops Rep: Obama Mandate Compromise Maybe Worse by Steven Ertelt over at Life News

The Obama administration is reportedly considering a compromise on its new mandate that has caused national outrage because it forces religious employers to cover birth control and drugs that may cause abortions. However, the leading pro-life spokesman for the Catholic bishops says the compromise may be worse.

The compromise under consideration by Obama officials reportedly involves applying Hawaii’s contraception mandate at the federal level — a mandate where employees at religious institutions that do not offer birth control and drugs like Plan B or ella can receive it through side benefits not offered by their employer. Employees pay an additional fee but often end up getting the coverage at no cost.

But Richard Doerflinger tells the Weekly Standard the Hawaii model “may be worse” because it would still have Catholic and other religious employers sending women for coverage for drugs that violate their moral beliefs.

He writes: “It’s difficult to know what people may mean by the “Hawaii compromise.” But a central feature of the Hawaii law is that every religious organization that is eligible for the exemption has to instruct all employees in how they can access all methods of contraception and sterilization locally “in an expeditious manner.”
