This is about Army Sgt. Kyle Osborn from Lafayette, IN, who died this month in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan: Memorial service planned for Indiana soldier by Associated Press, Indianapolis Star

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — An Indiana soldier killed in Afghanistan will be remembered this weekend at a memorial service in Lafayette.

Army Sgt. Kyle Osborn died Sept. 13 from wounds he suffered when insurgents attacked his unit in Muger, Afghanistan.

The 26-year-old Osborn was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment at Camp Ederle in Vicenza, Italy.

The Journal & Courier and WLFI report that Saturday's public memorial service will begin at 5 p.m. in McCutcheon High School's gymnasium. Osborn was a 2005 McCutcheon graduate.

A private funeral service is planned for the family.

Osborn's widow, Maggie Osborn, has said her husband will be buried in Clarks Hill Cemetery next to his grandfather.

Anyone wishing to send a message to Kyle’s widow, Maggie Osborn, can do so at www.facebook.com/mklason, or by mail to 334 Garden Drive, Delano, MN 55328.

In lieu of flowers, Maggie has set up the Kyle Osborn Donation Trust fund to benefit the Wounded Warriors Program and to establish a scholarship fund for Army wives who wish to further their education. Contributions can be made at any Wells Fargo Bank or sent to the Delano address.

THE FINAL INSPECTION

THE FINAL INSPECTION

Author Unknown~

The Soldier stood and faced God,

Which must always come to pass.

He hoped his shoes were shining,

Just as brightly as his brass..

‘Step forward now, Soldier

How shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek?

To My Church have you been true?’

The soldier squared his shoulders and said,

‘No, Lord, I guess I ain’t.

Because those of us who carry guns,

Can’t always be a saint.

I’ve had to work most Sundays.

And at times my talk was tough.

And sometimes I’ve been violent,

Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny,

That wasn’t mine to keep….

Though I worked a lot of overtime,

When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,

Though at times I shook with fear..

And sometimes, God, forgive me,

I’ve wept unmanly tears.

I know I don’t deserve a place,

Among the people here.

They never wanted me around,

Except to calm their fears.

If you’ve a place for me here, Lord,

It needn’t be so grand.

I never expected or had too much,

But if you don’t, I’ll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne,

Where the saints had often trod.

As the Soldier waited quietly,

For the judgment of his God.

‘Step forward now, Soldier.

You’ve borne your burdens well.

Walk peacefully on Heaven‘s streets,

You’ve done your time in Hell.
